Our Solution
Write more epilogues.
epilogue. by Petco Love was created with one mission: to give senior shelter animals a second chance at life. These older pets are often overlooked in shelters, yet they can still become loving, loyal companions for families.
By promoting senior pet adoption, we aim to reduce shelter overcrowding and prevent unnecessary euthanasia. Every senior pet deserves the opportunity to continue their story in a safe, caring home. Senior pet adoption stories are being written every day. Here are real-life stories of adopted senior animals and the people who gave them a second chance at love.

A Game Day Buddy: Rocco (11) is an avid Green Bay Packers fan who spent most of his life in Wisconsin. After his owner passed away, Rocco entered a shelter and began searching for a new companion to share his love of football. Last year, James (33) discovered Rocco on our pet adoption website, where he was pictured wearing a Packers jersey.
He instantly fell in love and decided to adopt a senior cat in need of a home. Since then, James and Rocco have spent every NFL Sunday curled up together, cheering on the Packers and embracing their inner cheesehead. Rocco’s story is a reminder that older shelter cats can still bring joy, companionship, and new chapters to your home.
A Workout Partner: Jamie (9) isn’t the fresh young pup he once was. After entering one of our shelters, his once active and playful days became less eventful. Until Roscoe (44) was in a similar situation. Once a star baseball player, the everyday demands of life had dampened his youthfulness. One day, he crossed paths with Jamie at one of our shelter open houses. The connection was instant, and Roscoe thought it would be a great chance to bring in a pet he saw himself in.
You may find Jamie and Roscoe happily strolling through the sunny streets of Los Angeles, where both are committed to getting back in shape! They should remind you that these animals have a lot left to give, and they can be your partner on the road to self-improvement.

Keep Calm and Crochet: Julie (8) was never much of an outdoor cat. Her previous owner spent a lot of time doing puzzles, knitting, baking and watching movies. When she came into our shelter, she had a much calmer vibe than the rest of the animals. When Merry (61) came in looking for a companion, she noticed that Julie would be a great fit for her older lifestyle.
The pair fit like a glove. While Merry crochets new toys and hats for Julie, the cat watches on, purring and filling the silence with her presence. Perhaps you could find your own Julie – an emotional rock and support that keeps your head in the right space.
These stories highlight how senior shelter pets can still form meaningful, life-enriching bonds with the people who adopt them. Whether it’s companionship, motivation, or quiet comfort, let’s continue writing epilogues with these loving animals in search of a new home. Get your story started, adopt an older pet, and find a shelter near you.
